The independent statutory agency of the Australian Government responsible for statistical collection and analysis, assisting and facilitating informed decision-making, research, and discussion within governments and the community by providing high-quality and responsive national statistical service.

Australian Institute of Criminology

The Australian Institute of Criminology (AIC) is Australia’s national research and knowledge centre on crime and justice, compiling trend data and disseminating research and policy advice. The AIC informs crime and justice policy and practice in Australia by undertaking, funding and disseminating policy-relevant research of national significance, by generating a crime and justice evidence base, and by establishing a national knowledge centre.

Australian Institute of Health and Welfare

The AIHW is an independent statutory Australian Government agency producing authoritative and accessible information and statistics to inform and support better policy and service delivery decisions, leading to better health and wellbeing for all Australians.

They are focused on turning data into useful information and telling the broader story.

Australian Law Reform Commission

The Australian Law Reform Commission (ALRC) undertakes research and provides recommendations to reform the law on topics selected by the Attorney-General of Australia.

Australia’s National Research Organisation for Women’s Safety (ANROWS)

ANROWS is a national independent not-for-profit resesarch organisation established by the Commonwealth government to produce, disseminate and assist in applying evidence for policy and practice as part of the National Plan to reduce violence against women and their children.  ANROWS produces relevant research, with peer-reviewed reports publicly available.

Corrections Research Evaluation and Statistics New South Wales (CRES)

Collects, analyses, interprets and disseminates information to assist Corrective Services NSW (CSNSW) planning, policy formulation and operational management. It also provides an information, analysis and advice service to the CSNSW Commissioner, the Minister for Communities and Justice and responds to requests from outside CSNSW.

Family and Community Services Insights Analysis and Research

A research body within the Department of Communities and Justice whose research helps to achieve outcomes for children, families and communities through driving evidence-based decision making.

Their work helps the sector to understand areas of child protection, domestic and family violence, out-of-home care, social housing, homelessness, disability, ageing and the human services sector’s resourcing and business operations.

Judicial Commission of New South Wales

The Judicial Commission of NSW is an independent statutory corporation established under the Judicial Officers Act 1986, reporting to the Parliament of NSW.

The Judicial Commission releases publications covering criminal law, sentencing, judicial administration, practice and procedure, and social context issues.

BOCSAR | NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research

BOCSAR is one of the NSW Department of Communities and Justice research and statistics agencies. Focussing on crime statistics, BOCSAR assists policy makers in the criminal justice system to develop and implement strategies to provide a more equitable, efficient and effective justice system.

BOCSAR regularly releases statistical summaries and reports identifying trends in crime and justice, these reports are publicly available and are often included in our JARA newsletter.

Department of Communities and Justice

The New South Wales Government Department of Communities and Justice is the lead agency in the Communities and Justice portfolio, which aims to create safe, just, inclusive and resilient communities through its services. Their resource centre includes a variety of factsheets, plans, policies, and easy read resources.

New South Wales Law Reform Commission

The NSW Law Reform Commission provides law reform advice to Government on issues that are referred to by the Attorney General. They prepare reports which comprehensively analyse the issues identified in the reference, and make recommendations to Government for legislative reform.

Victoria Law Foundation

The Victoria Law Foundation supports better justice through research, education and grants.  Research at VLF focuses on the legal and related needs of Victorians to make significant contributions to the Victorian justice system.
