Commissioned by National Legal Aid, the Law and Justice Foundation of NSW has published an independent evaluation of the NDIS Appeals Program Legal Services.
The findings highlight the importance of legal support in making the NDIS appeals process fair and efficient. The evaluation has been published as a detailed report, research summary and Easy Read summary.
About the NDIS Appeals Program Evaluation
The evaluation examined how the NDIS Appeals Program Legal Services is being delivered by Legal Aid Commissions across Australia. It considered the impacts of legal support on the lives of people with a disability who make an NDIS-related appeal, as well as the implications for the justice system. The evaluation drew on data collected via a series of interviews with 45 people from across Australia, service data, policy analyses, and public submissions to NDIS inquiries.
The findings show that the NDIS Appeals Program Legal Services:
- offers highly specialised support
- helps the legal system function better
- promotes transparent and fair National Disability Insurance Agency decisions, and
- gives people with disability better access to justice.

- Research Summary – a concise overview of key findings and recommendations.
