National Children’s and Youth Law Centre: Listen up! Young people and mobile phones

The Law and Justice Foundation provided a grant to the National Children’s and Youth Law Centre to develop Listen Up!, an information package on the issue of young people and mobile phones.

Listen up! was developed by the National Children’s and Youth Law Centre in partnership with the NSW Commission for Children and Young People, Redfern Legal Centre, the Consumer Credit Legal Centre, NSW Legal Aid, Streetwize Communications, the Youth Action and Policy Association and the Consumers’ Telecommunications Network.

It focuses on issues such as contract issues for under-18s, general contract information, terms and conditions in mobile phone contracts; debt issues; SMS and contract points for help.

With more than 45% of young people (14-24 owning a mobile phone) and 25% of young people reporting a lack of understanding of mobile phone contracts, the legal information package is timely and relevant. It is a valuable resource for youth services, community legal centres and young people themselves.

The Listen Up! Young people and mobile phones information package is available from the National Children’s and Youth Law Centre Tel: (02) 9398 7488 Email: [email protected]
